Yesterday was a great day because an old friend stopped by. Today is a great day for the same reason. The magic of that moment, when I entered into a good conversation with someone outside of my normal routine, became something big enough to fill the entire day, and even the next. Think about a friend or colleague you haven’t talked to in a while and send them a note, or find them in person if you can. But the beauty of it is that it doesn’t have to be someone you already know. Consider reaching out to a customer, but not as a customer—as a person.
While you’re getting outside of your routine, get out of your comfort zone. Find someone you don’t know and pay them a kind word. If you like someone’s shoes, tell them. Smile and say “Hello.” Ask for advice; enjoy some attention. And be sure to return the favor.
Magic really does happen outside of the routine. These are the things that stand out. And that’s what Red Shoes is all about.
