Emma and the Fresh Breakfast!

While staying in London this week, an amazing thing happened. Yep, you guessed it: I had a brilliant Red Shoes Experience. In fact, I had a few, but one specifically that I would like to share with you.

I was in London to present with Shane Evans and Rachel Lane (two of our Rock Stars from Mindshare Technologies) at our Customer Feedback Best Practices Seminars held near the famous Piccadilly Circus. I love coming to London, and I especially love interacting with the people. My only complaint is the time change—that seven hour difference just messes me up.

We arrived and checked in at the lovely Manor House in Godalming, England. This is an amazing and elegant cottage that was built in the second half of the 19th century. It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel at home and know that, if walls could talk, many interesting stories would be told. The people here are simply amazing as well. You know that your stay will include an extended family (the staff) as part of the deal.

On the first day we attended a rugby match and cricket game, and I can tell you I am definitely a rugby guy. I also cycled 30 miles with Shane Evans, who is training for an Ironman; that, of course, was a huge mistake on my part.

Thanks to that, the next morning was brutal for me. I awoke “a bit late,” as my English friends might say, and decided to go for a quick run. When I returned I was starving. The only problem was that breakfast had stopped being served an hour before I returned. This is where my day turned for the better. Emma Capon, a 42 25-year-old native from Godalming, England (and rumored to be married to George Clooney) came to my aid.

Keep in mind, Emma has been in a number of movies, including Pirates of the Caribbean and Hugo. She knows how to act! I asked Emma if there was any way to get breakfast even though I was late. Emma looked at me as if to say, “Americans—only the Americans.” She quickly asked me what I would like for breakfast and told me that she would have it made fresh! She had me sit in the atrium and told me my breakfast would be served shortly! Really? Fresh breakfast an hour after the kitchen had closed... this Emma really does know how to act! She treated me as if I was the only person in the room (which I was, by the way), and I simply couldn’t believe my luck.

The breakfast was amazing, but Emma and her kindness were even more incredible. I chatted with her for a while after breakfast just trying to learn as much about her as I could. Needless to say, the rest of my day was amazing, the weariness I woke up with was forgotten, and I have told the Emma story to many already.

So if you’re ever looking for a full English breakfast, in my opinion, there is only one place to go: Emma’s Kitchen in Godalming, England at the elegant Manor House. While you’re there, please tell Emma and Mr. Clooney hello for me!

P.S. I also want to give a shout out to Victoria who so graciously took care of me the entire week and also became our photographer.
